Dr Maurice is a wonderful family dentist. He has a reassuring and professional manner which instantly puts even my 3 year old at ease. The practice is run very well and I have never had to wait for my appointment. I would recommend St James Dental Surgery without hesitation.

I have used NHS dentists for quite awhile and had repeated repairs to a chipped tooth where the fix doesn't actually fix it. I have been using St James Dental Surgery for nearly 4 years as a private patient variously fixing cheaper dental work that recurs. I have nothing but praise for the quality of work, guarantee of the work and value for money. The staff are always professional, understanding and accomodating to my needs. The dental care is top class, and I won't go anywhere else now - even though I have moved away from the surrounding area.

FAQs
Common questions
Everything you might want to know about emergency dental appointments at St James Dental Surgery.
Can I be seen today?
We do our best to see emergency patients the same day. Call us as early as possible on 020 8365 2090 and we will check what is available. The sooner you call, the more likely we can fit you in that day.
How much does an emergency appointment cost?
The emergency appointment fee is £95 for new patients and £85 for registered patients. This covers your full assessment, diagnosis where clinically needed. If further treatment is required, we will quote this separately with no obligation to proceed on the day.
What does the appointment fee include?
Your emergency appointment includes a thorough clinical assessment of the problem, a full diagnosis with a clear explanation of what is happening. X-rays are included where clinically necessary. Any further treatment such as fillings, extractions or root canal work is quoted separately.
What counts as a dental emergency?
If you are in pain or something doesn't feel right, that is reason enough to call us. Common emergencies include severe toothache, a broken or chipped tooth, a lost filling or crown, swelling, abscess, bleeding gums, or a knocked-out tooth. Do not wait — dental problems rarely improve on their own.
I've knocked out a tooth — what should I do?
Call us immediately. In the meantime, gently rinse the tooth without scrubbing it and keep it moist — either held carefully between your cheek and gum or placed in milk. Do not let it dry out. Speed is critical with a knocked-out tooth so please do not delay.
What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday 9am – 6pm and Saturday 9am – 1pm. We are closed on Sundays. If you are unsure whether we can see you, call us and we will do our best to help.
I am not a registered patient — can I still come in?
Absolutely. We welcome new patients for emergency appointments. The fee for new patients is £95, which covers your full assessment and diagnosis. You are under no obligation to register with us or commit to any further treatment.
I am anxious about visiting the dentist — is that okay?
Completely. Many of our patients feel the same way, especially in an emergency situation. Our team is experienced at helping nervous patients feel at ease. We will explain everything before we do it, work at your pace, and make sure you are comfortable throughout.
